False Prophets
“False Prophets” preached by Pastor John McGhee on February 10th, 2018 at the Mount Vernon Seventh-day Adventist Church in Mount Vernon, Washington
What’s the point?
What is your life’s purpose? What was God thinking when he created you? Does He still call people today, or is that just something that happens only for pastors? Join us as we explore these questions and search for answers through the life and person of Isaiah. Scripture: Isaiah 6:1-8; Isaiah 43:1,2, 7, 10,11; Isaiah 44:6-8 “What’s the point?” preached by Larry Paise on February 3rd, 2018 at the Mount Vernon Seventh-day Adventist Church in Mount Vernon, Washington
Our Pursuing Father
From Genesis to Revelation a picture emerges that is both compelling and astonishing. The Creator of the Universe is also our Father. Our Father never gives up! He will not stop pursuing us, his children, even if we hate him and nail him to a cross. When we walked away, he drew closer. When we hid in fear, he called to us. When we felt ashamed, he covered us. When we rejected him, he became one of us. When we…
Reconciliation
“Reconciliation” preached by Pastor John McGhee on January 20th, 2018 at the Mount Vernon Seventh-day Adventist Church in Mount Vernon, Washington
Reconciliation – Are You Winning Enough
Let’s pretend that you are an athlete on a world class team. The competition is brutal. The championship series is on the line. You are sitting on the bench and the coach puts you in the game to replace a star player. You make a great play. The crowd cheers. Then you blow an easy score. The crowd boos. What do you feel like? Could you have done better? This sermon may help. Scripture: Isaiah 42:1-9 “Reconciliation – Are…
Reconciliation – Are You Brave Enough?
At the start of a New Year, we all tend to start purging unhealthy things from our lives: unhealthy foods; bad habits; clutter; sometimes even toxic people or relationships. But have you ever wondered how reconciliation comes into play in our relationships? When should we reconcile? How do we reconcile? What is God’s plan for reconciliation in our earthly relationships? Join us as we unpack these questions and search the Bible for guidance. Scripture: Matthew 5:23-24; Genesis 33:4; Genesis 45:4-8;…
Our Father
Our Father, the familiar beginning of the Lord’s Prayer, has world changing implications. If God is our Father, then who are “we?” If we are the children of God, then what authority has He given us on Earth, and how do we wield that authority? How do we usher in the Kingdom of our Father, as Jesus did? Consider, with me, the Lord’s Prayer, so familiar to us all. Perhaps, if we dig deeper in our understanding of this beautiful…
When God is Born
Mary, the mother of Jesus, was living an ordinary life, going about her daily routines, preparing for her marriage that had likely been prearranged. An encounter with God changed all of that. Right in the middle of Mary’s carefully planned life, God sent the angel Gabriel with a greeting and a message. The greeting? “Good morning! You’re beautiful with God’s beauty, Beautiful inside and out! God be with you.” (Luke 1: 28 MB) Astounded by this greeting, Mary was then told she would become…

Do You Know Emmanuel
Luke reports that our Messiah was given two names by an angel: Jesus and Emmanuel. Which name did Mary use while rocking her heavenly baby to sleep? Why is one of these names English and the other Hebrew. Which name is mentioned only three times in scripture. Do the names mean the same thing? Is one of them a middle name? Knowing the answers could have eternal consequences. I’d love to receive your feedback after hearing the sermon. Scripture: Matthew…
